The Telugu language film, Mahavatar Narsimha. has emerged as a mega-hit across demographics in 2025. An animated devotional film directed by Ashwin Kumar in his directorial debut, Mahavatar Narsimha was written by Jayapurna Das and produced by Shilpaa Dhawan, Kushal Desai and Chaitanya Desai for Kleem Productions. The songs and background score were composed by Sam C. S.
Presented by Hombale Films, the film is the first instalment in the planned seven-part animated Mahavatar Cinematic Universe, based on the various avatars (Incarnations) of Lord Vishnu.
This film chronicled two avatars of Vishnu, Varaha and Narasimha. Varaha, a mighty boar, rescues Bhudevi (Mother Earth) from the asur (demon) Hiranyaksha. The story then shifts to Hiranyakashyap, Hiranyaksha’s brother, who gains a boon, calls himself god, and oppresses Vishnu’s followers. Vishnu then appears as Narsimha, a half-lion form, who kills Hiranyakashyap while keeping in mind the boon he has received from Lord Brahma: that he will be invincible in normal circumstances Mahavatar Narsimha: Trade..
The film marked a strategic push to elevate Indian animation, challenging the notion that Indian animation is only for children. The animation process spanned four and a half years.
Mahavatar Narsimha ranks among the five blockbusters of 2025 in Hindi, when we consider the time-tested criterion of ROI or return on investment: it has made eight times its investment Mahavatar Narsimha: Trade.. It can be called a true-blue Pan-India hit as its maximum opening-day collection as well as Lifetime Net was more in Hindi than in the language it was primarily made in: Telugu.

What’s more, the film not only beat Hollywood animation releases in India in 2025 but also became the highest-grossing animation feature in India, beating the collections of The Lion King (2019). About this hitherto first-in-a-lifetime phenomenon, Bollywood Hungama spoke to Raj Bansal, veteran distributor and exhibitor, and trade analysts Taran Adarsh and Komal Nahta for their views.
What explains the mammoth success of Mahavatar Narsimha.
Raj Bansal: Last year, horror comedies were trending. This year, it’s been either patriotism or mythology Mahavatar Narsimha: Trade.. Kantara: A Legend—Chapter 1 and this film are the best examples. Even Thamma has an element of mythology Mahavatar Narsimha: Trade.. I think there has been a solid bent towards mythology today, and the youth have connected with it especially Mahavatar Narsimha: Trade.. My son, who is a chartered accountant and works with me, went and watched this film when his friends asked him why he had not seen it yet Mahavatar Narsimha: Trade.. And he came back impressed and stressed that I must watch it. He also said, “Why don’t we make such subjects. ” It is one more proof today that it is content that people want, and everything else is secondary.
Look at the Gujarati blockbuster, Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahaayate: made on a shoestring budget minus big names, it opened miserably but went on to be the first film in Gujarati to cross Rs. 100 crores, and is still running.

In no time at all, Mahavatar Narsimha went on to become a roaring hit.
Is this also because a lot of Indian youth in this digital era have reduced their reading on Indian mythology Mahavatar Narsimha: Trade..
Komal Nahta: Hundred percent. And every 20 or 25 years, we also witness a social change. We see quite a lot of our youth now sick of the typical parties and having yoga parties instead Mahavatar Narsimha: Trade.. There is a shift in their thinking.
