20th anniversary EXCLUSIVE: “NOBODY was remixing songs then…” – Rohan Sippy explains how Bluffmaster got its UNIQUE, rage-worthy music; also reveals, “We shot the film in JUST 50 days; budget was LESS than half of my first film, Kuch Naa Kaho!”

20th anniversary EXCLUSIVE: 20th anniversary EXCLUSIVE: Bluffmaster (2005), the cool con-comedy, completed 20 years on December 16. The film was loved for its fresh treatment, casting, comic moments, shocking suspense and of course, the music, which continues to be popular even today 20th anniversary EXCLUSIVE:.. During the time of its release, the songs became a rage as they had a different sound 20th anniversary EXCLUSIVE:.. The title track was a recreated version of the title track of the 1976 film Sabse Bada Rupaiya. The film ended up using a few more old tracks as well. The lead female singer in ‘Say Na Say Na’ had a distinct voice, while ‘Boro Boro’ made people shake their legs, despite the difficult-to-comprehend lyrics 20th anniversary EXCLUSIVE:.. Lastly, ‘Right Here Right Now’ became the anthem of the nation and moreover, it was the first song sung by lead actor, Abhishek Bachchan 20th anniversary EXCLUSIVE:.. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, director Rohan Sippy spoke about the process of making the music of Bluffmaster.

Rohan Sippy began by saying, “Like most things in the film, the music also happened organically. My first film, Kuch Naa Kaho (2003), did not do great business. There was pressure on me and obviously, I was not going to get a huge budget. The budget of Bluffmaster was probably less than half of Kuch Naa Kaho. It made sense as I had not delivered a big hit. So, I had to prove myself and rise up to the challenge 20th anniversary EXCLUSIVE:.. Since I had less money to make a film, I also had less time to shoot the film. We had a target of shooting the film in 50 days and we were able to stick to it. At that time, it was a quick shoot. Then, film shoots used to easily go for 80-100 days. ”
He added, “The department for which you really need time is music and again, we were short of money on this front. The music market was at its peak and the music composer added to the cost of an album. Writer Shridhar Raghavan and I both enjoyed western films and we thought of trying the soundtrack approach, that is, we can have music in the film, but it won’t be choreographed 20th anniversary EXCLUSIVE:.. ”
Rohan Sippy revealed, “In Shridhar’s script, it was written that Roy (Abhishek Bachchan), walks away with the suitcase of money and cons Omar while ‘Sabse Bada Rupaiya’ kicks in. That’s how we got the idea, ‘Why don’t we literally use the same song. ’ 20th anniversary EXCLUSIVE:.. Nobody was remixing songs in those days. Thankfully, we were working with Saregrama and they had an incredible catalogue. A lot of other songs also came out of that catalogue. ”
Rohan Sippy continued, “My friend Kaveri was then working in Virgin EMI Records. They had a couple of artists with them like Aneela Mirza, Arash, etc. They came on board as they wanted exposure in the Indian market 20th anniversary EXCLUSIVE:.. Arash, like many, thankfully, is a huge Bachchan fan. So, the idea of associating with Abhishek on a film was an exciting opportunity for him 20th anniversary EXCLUSIVE:.. Kaveri brought some great songs to my attention and we were able to choose interesting songs from Saregama. In short, we literally got a chance to have this great music in the film for pretty much nothing. ”
As for ‘Right Here Right Now’, Rohan Sippy said, “Finally, we thought of having one final song. Shridhar, Abhishek, Vishal-Shekhar and I chatted about it 20th anniversary EXCLUSIVE:.. It was like the ‘six blind men and the elephant’. We all described different kinds of vibes of a song. Thankfully, what came out was perfect – ‘Right Here Right Now’ (smiles). ”
